Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?
By: Lee MacRae
With so many different makes and types of
golf clubs on the market, it is no wonder beginners, let alone the more experienced golfer, can become easily confused when it comes to buying clubs.
Read along as we discuss the types available and what they each can do for your game of golf.
First, are you between five and six feet tall? Then standard clubs will most likely work for you. That principle holds for both sexes. Standard clubs will come in enough variety that you should find something to fit the rest of your personal needs quite readily.
Anyone else, should take a look at getting custom fitted clubs to match their height.
Cast Iron or Forged Iron Golf Club?
The answer normally is "cast iron".
Why, you ask? The answer centers on a particular feature of the cast iron club - a larger "sweet spot". That refers to the area right smack dab in the middel of the club face where you are supposed to hit the ball. A larger sweet spot gives you a larger striking area and greater odds for a well-hit shot. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. This is the major reason why you see larger or even "oversized" clubs made, especially the oversized drivers today. These clubs allow for a larger sweet spot and make the game a lot easier for the average player
By contrast, forged iron golf clubs are "harder to hit" a good shot with as they have a smaller sweet spot.
So why even make golf clubs out of forged iron, you ask?
Because the "softer" forged metal gives the golfer a better feel than the harder cast iron does. The better players, on the other hand, will give up that larger sweet spot [and even some distance] to get that better feel of each and every shot they take. With a more consistant swing, they usually strike the ball dead center on most shots anyway. With the better feel of the forged iron club, they can draw, fade, hook or slice the ball deliberately when circumstances on the golf course require it.
The shaft of the club is your next thing to look at. Specifically the material it will be made from. Basically, you have steel or composite shafts
The major criteria here is club speed. An average golfer will have a club head speed of 80-94 mph. Lower speeds usually means you should look at a composite shaft. With a slower swing speed comes less distance on your drives. Less distance means more shots needed to reach the putting green. Not a good thing if you want to lower your score. And that is where the composite shaft material comes in. The composite shaft will give you longer drives than you will normally get with your low swing speed and steel shafted golf clubs.
By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.
Have your swing speed determined by visiting your local pro shop or a golf store that is equiped with a swing speed radar device. Or simply buy a small radar device for yourself. You can find some small devices that operate by batteries but are effective enough to determine your swing speed.
With only these few starting tips, it is typically best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club serves or handicaps your game. You are looking to ascertain your own strengths as well as weaknesses. Check out the assorted types and varieties of golf clubs you may find in a rental shop, for example, and discover what works best for you.
Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

As for golf clubs, many things affect this decision. First, base the length of your club by your height. Standard clubs should not be used for someone who is very tall or very short. There are also different weights to a club. Lighter clubs allow higher speeds, which is a common choice for female golfers. Another factor to consider is the loft angle of a club. This can be used to cover a greater distance. With a higher loft, you will achieve better trajectory. If you swing rather slow, a golf club with a higher loft may be the best selection.

Sand Trap Tips And Tecniques
By Lee MacRae
Sand play does not have to be life threatening! But that is how many golfers feel when they land a shot into a bunker or sand trap. Follow along as we explain some things you can do to improve in this area of your golf game
A good way to gauge distance on a sand shot is to think of hitting the ball twice as far. Let's say you have a sand shot of 25 feet. Hit it with the same power that you would use for a fairway shot of 50 feet. A word of warning; this system works well on medium to long sand shots. On the short touch shots you're better off practicing to get a feel for finesse. After all, you may well have a 6 foot long sand shot, but how many 12 foot long fairway shots do you ever have?
If the sand is wet or firm, don't automatically reach for your sand wedge. A better choice in this case would be a pitching wedge. The pitching wedge has less bounce [the curve on the bottom of the head] and is not as sharp on the edges. These feature will prevent the club from digging nto the sand too much and ruining the shot. Just keep the face square [not open as that adds to the bounce] and swing a little shorter than you normally would. Success will follow.
Ask any professional golfer the toughest shot in golf and he'll say the 60 yard sand shot. Even the top players have trouble deciding whether this calls for an explosion shot or a normal wedge shot. Fortunately, we average players don't have to make that decision. The 60 yard explosion just isn't in our bags. So we'll make do with the normal wedge shot. Stand squarely, with the ball in the middle of your stance. As with the long bunker shot, you should make contact with the ball first, to remain as steady as possible for as long as possible. As this requires you to swing with only your hands and arms, you'll want to take a club or two more than usual [but bear in mind that playing the ball farther back than normal will deloft the clubface slightly]. For anything up to 75 yards, the average players to use a pitching wedge hit with a three quarters swing.
And no matter what you do, even for sand play, always imagine the shot before you take it. And imagine the shot being succesfull! Not much sense in defeating yourself before you even start. Imagine yourself being successful throughout your golf game and watch your game flourish.

Finding Your Putters Sweet Spot
By: Jeff Austin
The sweet spot is the particular spot that every
golf club has, where it hits with pure impact. The shot feels good, looks good and gives the best results.
The sweet spot is a small spot around your clubs center of gravity, when you hit a ball with the sweet spot it goes exactly where you want it to go because the head doesnt move out of alignment with the target.
Statistics show that if you miss the sweet spot by as little as a quarter of an inch you will miss every putt by at least eight feet, the sweet spot is that important to your ability to putt.
On most putters the sweet spot is marked by a line or arrow that has been cut into the topline or the part of the putter you see when you are addressing the ball.
It is not uncommon for this factory mark to be off by a little, so find the sweet spot for yourself and mark it properly.
To find the sweet spot on your putter, hold the putter lightly out in front of you by the thumb and forefinger and allow it to swing easily, hold it in the same position it would be in if you were putting, now tilt the shaft until the bottom of the putter is parallel to the ground.
Using the eraser end of a pencil or some other pointed object, gently tap the putterface until you find the one spot that causes the head to swing back and forth without any twisting of the face, no wobbling and with little or no vibration.
You have found your putters sweet spot; mark it well for reference during play. Making a grove in the top of the putter is one way to mark it; you may want to fill the groove with white paint so it is easier to see.

One of the first things to keep in mind when making a golfing product purchase is to choose equipment that fits your body type and personal style. There are certain physical qualities every golfer possesses that either enhances or hinders their golf game. Choosing products to match these characteristics are important. You will find that many items are rather specific to the user. When you bring home the incorrect fit, your game risks the potential of becoming worse.

Tips For Sand Trap Play
By Lee MacRae
Following are some tips to help improve your golf game.
Excessive wrist action can wreck a golf shot. It usually leads to topping or blading, which in a greenside bunker can be especially ruinous. There is usually not much golf course around greens, and a ball blade is out of a bunker could end up in a water hazard, out of bounds, or in some other unplayable lie. It is a good idea, therefore to hit all sand shots with stiff wrists, even those that require you to cock your wrists early on the backswing. Remember; no wrists, no risk.
Visual imagery is commom in bunker play. Some instructors tell students to imagine that the face of the club is the palm of their hands, which they "slap" under the ball in the hitting zone. We prefer to think of money. A dollar bill is slightly more than six inches long. That means that if the bill is laid under a golf ball, about two inches of the ball would protrude back from the bill. As the ideal "explosion shot" demands that you hit into the sand roughly two inches behind the ball, you should pretend that you're hitting the dollar ball out of the bunker. This is an especially useful image because in order to hit the ball right out of the bunker, you'll need to complete your follow-through, and that's another important element of just about every sand shot.
The sand actually allows for a margin of error. Just make sure you accelerate your golf club through the sand and good results will follow. If your impact is close to your ball, it will go longer in the air but will retain a lot of spin. Impact a little farther behind your ball and you make it travel less in the air but it now has the tendency for more run on landing. Just remember to focus on the sand, not on the itself ball, and let your club [and the sand] do the work.
Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play will alleviate fears. Remaining calm and keeping some simple techniques in mind will turn your sand play in to childs play. Now head off to play golf.

For The Beginner - Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?
By: Lee MacRae
With a larger variety of
golf clubs coming onto the scene every week, it can become more and more difficult to determine just exactly what you should be looking for when buying new clubs.
Follow along as we discuss each type and what may be best for you.
First, take note of your height. Standard golf clubs are designed for individuals bewteen five and six feet. That principle applies to both men and women. By looking for standard clubs uing the hints given here, you should find something that will work well for you.
Anyone taller or shorter should take a look at custom clubs to get the proper fit.
Cast or Forged Clubs?
The answer normally is "cast iron".
The major reason? Because of the larger "sweet spot" you tend to find on the cast iron clubs. This is the are in the center of the club face where "forces" are said to be perfectly balanced to deliver the perfect shot. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. It makes it a little easier to hit the "bulls eye" every time on your shots. This makes cast iron clubs ideal for anyone who wants a more consistant shot., especially beginners. Until their swing plane is more developed, they will have an easier time striking the ball on a consistant basis with the cast iron club. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.
By contrast, forged iron golf clubs are "harder to hit" a good shot with as they have a smaller sweet spot.
Which begs the question. Why make forged iron clubs?
Well, because they are made of a softer steel, they offer a better "feel" on each and every shot.
The shaft of the club is the next item to look at. What will it be made of? A composite or steel?
The significant factor here is club speed. A typical golfer will have a club head velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed usually signifies you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material . With a slower swing speed comes less distance on your drives. Less distance means more shots needed to reach the putting green. Not a good thing if you want to lower your score. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.
For golfers with faster swing speeds, you don't necessarily need more distance. What you really want is more control. A steel tube shaft will give you that control to go along with your acceptable distance.
Have your swing speed determined by visiting your local pro shop or a golf store that is equiped with a swing speed radar device. Or simply buy a small radar device for yourself. You can find some small devices that operate by batteries but are effective enough to determine your swing speed.
With just these few starting tips, it is usually best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or hinders your game. You are looking to determine your personal strengths and weaknesses. Try the various types and kinds of clubs available to you and, in time, you will be able to narrow in on what will work best for you and which clubs offer the best advantages to improve your golf score.
If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

Basically, there are two main components to play golf - there are the golf ball and the golf clubs. The golf ball is not just a ball it is a scientifically designed piece of equipment. The dimples on a golf ball are designed so that there is less resistance in the air - if you look closely at different brands of golf ball the dimples are slightly different and it you count the dimples on a golf ball some balls have more than others. The inside of the golf ball is also different - this inside of the ball is normally determined by how much spin you want to be able to impart onto the ball, both in the air and upon contact with the ground.

Golf Swing Trainers Can Fix Any Swing Fault
By: Trent
When I talk to golfers about improving their golf swings, they almost every time bring up
golf swing trainers. What I mean is the training aids like Medicus, Kallasssys Swing Magic, and many others. These golf swing aids can be very effective if you take the right approach from the beginning.
What is your swing fault?
The first thing you need to do is diagnose your specific swing fault. Every golfer has a swing fault that creeps into his or her game on a daily basis. Dont you? Even if you have a good round going, doesnt your dreaded swing fault show up sooner than later? I know this is what happens to me.
Once you recognize your consistent golf swing fault, you need to look at the mechanics or physical issues that are causing it. This will help you narrow down you decision for a golf swing trainer that will help you achieve your goals.
Dont buy it because its popular!
It is so easy to fall into the trap of infomercials. They are done so well, before you know ityou are getting your credit card out and placing your order. Dont do it! Pay attention to the exact issue each and every swing trainer addresses. The problem is most of them say they solve ALL the swing faults, which is not possible.
Your body is doing something incorrect, and it is causing your swing fault. Not every trainer out there can correct this physical issue. Therefore, you should not fall for the marketing pitch these companies are doing to you. Stay focused and pick your weapon wisely.
See if you can demo one from your local golf store.
One thing golfers never do is try to use it for free. Thats right! Go in there and tell them you are interested in golf swing trainers and do they have the particular one you want to use as a demo. If they have one that has been returned, they will do it. I have done it and it works. You cant be shy! Go in and give it a try!
Use it consistently!
Now youve made your decision, spent the money and have it in your possession. What normally happens is you use it once or twice and put it in your golf garage never to use it again right? I can say this because I have done it. If you want to be successful with your new golf swing trainer, youve go to use it regularly! I know this sounds stupid, but I know 80% of golfers dont do this.
To be successful in anything, you need to be persistent and consistent with your new program. Set out to use it daily at a certain time of the day and schedule it in. I am dead serious! Put it in your appointment book and do it! This will insure you have a constant reminder to use it. Take this approach and the sky is the limit!

Wondering which golf clubs you should buy?
By: Lee MacRae
With a larger variety of
golf clubs coming onto the scene every week, it can become more and more difficult to determine just exactly what you should be looking for when buying new clubs.
Read along as we discuss the types available and what they each can do for your game of golf.
First, take note of your height. Standard golf clubs are designed for individuals bewteen five and six feet. And that holds equally for males and females. If you are taller or shorter than that, then you should seriously take a look at custom made clubs.
Cast or Forged Golf Club?
For most golfers, the standard cast iron clubs are the proper way to go.
Why, you ask? Because of the larger "sweet spot" you tend to find on the cast iron clubs. That refers to the area right in the middle of the club face. The larger the "sweet spot" on a club face, the more area you have to strike the ball well. Being a little off center will not affect your shot to any great degree. It is for that main reason the beginners are steered towards cast iron clubs. Until their swing plane is more developed, they will have an easier time striking the ball on a consistant basis with the cast iron club. That is why clubs like "Big Bertha" came on the market. The large oversized head obviously gives a much larger sweet spot than a normal driver. Average golfers get longer and straighter drives on a more consistant basis.
By contrast, forged iron golf clubs are "harder to hit" a good shot with as they have a smaller sweet spot.
So why even make golf clubs out of forged iron, you ask?
For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot.
The next item to consider is the material for the shaft. Will it be composite or steel?
The significant factor here is club head speed. A typical golfer will have a club velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed means you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material, not steel. The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. Composite shafts will allow you to get that much needed distance on your shots. And even within the composite shaft class, you will find variations in flex and materials that will affect your game.
For golfers with faster swing speeds, you don't necessarily need more distance. What you really want is more control. A steel tube shaft will give you that control to go along with your acceptable distance.
In order to determine your personal swing speed, look for a sports shop or golf store that has speed sensor equipment and get yourself clocked.
With merely these few starting points, it is usually best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club aids or hinders your game. You are seeking to see your individual strong points or weaknesses. Try the various types and kinds of golf clubs available to you and, in time, you will be able to determine which clubs offer the best advantages for your game.

You may also be wondering what exactly constitutes a senior golfer. In the outside world a becoming a senior starts usually when you're 65. Not in golf, they jumped the gun and started classifying seniors starting at 50 to play on the senior tours. Some players may not want to be considered a senior that early. But it can only help you as the equipment will become easier to use. Heck some don't even wait until 50 if the senior golf equipment will help their game sooner.

Full Golf Swing - How To Generate More Power In Your Swing
By: Dean Caporella
Achieving a full
golf swing as a senior player becomes more and more difficult the older one gets. Naturally, distance will wane over time but accuracy shouldn't and hitting the ball straight shouldn't be an issue if you've been playing the game for any length of time.
However, many senior players cite shortening distance as their main issue and dream of the times they used to be able to belt the ball over considerable ground.
This article is not going to turn you into the world's longest hitter but will help you maintain a full golf swing and help you maximize the greatest amount of power into your shot.
Winding Up For A Big Golf Swing
Achieving greater distance has a lot to do with the fullness of the golf swing. Many players will check their swings too early before coming down on the ball. They do this by fighting the bend of the elbow. If you're a right-hander that bend is in the right arm and vice-versa for a left-hander.
By preventing the elbow from bending naturally as you draw back on your shot is preventing you from taking a full wind-up and hence, by the time the club has made impact with the ball, the power generated won't be as great as it would have been if the elbow bend wasn't resisted.
The secret is to make sure your arms are flexible during the pre-swing period and to let the elbow bend naturally.
Overcoming Inflexibility
For older players, it's not so much resisting the elbow bend which affects their ability to get distance but it's more a matter of waning flexibility and diminishing power.
The older one gets the more the tendency is to hunch over. This only serves to restrict your turning ability thus affecting your power. Instead, practice standing straighter. Bending the knees ever so slightly, make sure your back is straight and you are bending forward until your club is in the contact position with the ball.
Practice this until you are comfortable with it and then take it to the practice range. The idea with this technique is to allow those older players who don't quite possess the flexibility anymore, to be able to take a full golf swing at the ball without compromising their accuracy. The club will swing in a more vertical motion because of the straighter stance.
Yes, it may feel awkward at first but remember, it's really only a minor adjustment in terms of the way you stand over the ball and shouldn't present any problems in it's correct execution.

Price is another factor to pay attention to. High prices do not always equate to a higher quality golfing product. When you pay more money, this doesn't mean your handicap will magically decrease. Spend more time choosing the correct product and less money trying to purchase skill. There are also plenty of golfing fads on the market. Don't become a victim to flashy packaging or alluring imagery. Aim for getting the best product for the most reasonable price.

How flexible should the driver shaft be? This is a perplexing question for average players who seem confused by the give in a shaft. It's reasoned that the more flexibility a shaft has the greater power behind the point of impact. This is true in a sense but be careful you don't waste money here unneccessarily. Why? Because shaft flexibility should be in relation to the swing speed of a person's swing. The slower the swing the more flexible the shaft; the faster the swing, the less flexible the shaft for better accuracy.

A Good Golf Course Is Half Your Fun
By: Ken Morris
What makes a good golf course? Many people think a golf course consists of nothing more than a large green lawn or field. While it may have this appearance from a distance, a good golf course is much more that. The way the land is laid out is very important to someone looking to buy land to make a golf course. If they choose a large flat piece of land, they'll have a lot of work and expense ahead of them if they want a golf course that golfers will want to keep coming back to.
Although hills may be something that golfers dread during the course of a game, they are also important for the course to help make the game more challenging. A couple of hills will work perfectly. If there were only one hill, some of the more experienced golfers would have it mastered in no time. Trees, those aggravating trees, also make for a good golf game. It takes a really good golfer to be able to shoot around the trees! There should be a nice area for the fairway, an appropriate area for the rough and some sand traps. Some golfers hate sand traps and claim they could do without them, but they add to the game.
The holes on the course need to be all over the place and not in a straight row. If each hole were the same direction and distance, the golfers would get bored very quickly. Even though many golfers complain about certain courses being very difficult to master, these are the very golf courses they want to keep returning to to better their game. These are the types of challenges that make the golfing fun. If playing golf isn't challenging, where's the fun?
The type of grass that is used is important, too. Bent grass greens work the best because the balls are as likely to roll off the greens as with other types of grass. Good maintenance of a golf course is very important in keeping it course golfers will enjoy. Keeping rocks and stones off the course not only helps the appearance but also will make it better for playing. Many golf courses have groundskeepers just for maintaining the course. Speaking of maintenance, the trails for the golf carts need to be kept in good condition as well. When the golfers are riding the carts, they should get as smooth a ride as possible.
Most important is the customer service the golf course owner and crew show to the customers. This is the major thing that will keep the golfers happy and eager to return.
Ken Morris writes for the most part for www.alicante-spain.com , an internet site about playing golf . His abstracts on golf in benidorm are published on his website .

Our Featured Golf WriterHow To Develop A Perfect Golf Swing To Improve Your Game
By: Gregg Hall
If you are going to be playing golf any time soon then you are going to need more then just agility. You are going to need to be totally limber and focused on the game or you are not going to do so well. Even though you may not need endurance during a game of golf you will need to be focused the entire time and not over swing and get nervous or your game is done. If you want to get a good score and win games then you need to get your swing down, a perfect swing is the missing piece that you need to win a game. If you cannot make a good swing then you will not be able to play the game. You need to be able to swing the club perfect before you start playing real games. You will want to play not having to keep buying balls every hole. Just get your swing down to perfection and then you can start playing games of golf. There isn't anything more important in golf then getting your swing down.
So if you and your family love to golf and you have kids then you should think about sending your kids to golf school there are numerous schools across the country to go to. If you still can at least hit the ball win you swing then these schools won't be able to teach you much. The golf swing needs everything to work together to make one thing work your golf swing. Your upper body needs to be inline and you just need to be focused when you are about to make a swing.
When you are about to make a swing your feet should almost always be shoulder length apart in your stance if they are not then you need to make them that way. If you are using a wider club then you can spread your feet a few more inches apart. If you are using a shorter club then you will need your feet to be closer together. You will just want to have a god stance when you are about to swing. Having proper stance in golf is what having a perfect swing means if you do not have a good stance then you is not going to have a pretty swing.
Your arms and legs need to work together to help you swing to the fullest. If not then you are going to have one ugly swing. Your hands and wrists then need to work together as well to perform a nice swing. After you have all your body parts aligned and you are ready to swing be sure that you have your stance correct and then you can begin to make your swing. Your swing needs to be to the stance of the club so make sure that you are swinging with the right stance when you are playing a game of golf. The longer the club the wider the stance the shorter the club the smaller the stance.

Featured Golf ArticleHow To Play Bunkers And Sand Traps
By Lee MacRae
Getting a good
golf shot out of bunker or a sand trap can go along way to salvaging a golf hole. Here are a few tips that you can use to make your golf game better.
If you find yourself in a sand bunker position where the ball is above your feet remember: do not simply lean back or attempt your swing on a flatter plane. You need to stand as you would for a normal lie. But now you choke down to the bottom of your grip to counter the change in elevation. With the clubface open , take the club back and outside your target line, now swing through along the line of your open stance. If you let your right hand pass over the left, the slope will send the ball left, so keep your hands quiet as the club cuts through the sand.
Here's another piece of visual imagery to help you cut your ball out of sand: imagine that a thick piece of cord is dangling vertically, just behind your ball.Nnow, open your stance to help you swing from the outside in, then use the leading edge of your club to slice the cord were it touches the sand. Soon you'll find yourself opening the blade properly, cutting through the ball the way the pros do.
The delicate explosion shot [where you see a puff of sand and the ball flies to the hole and stops on a dime] is tough to hit consistently. Most attempts see the ball rolling more than expected. So why not anticipate the roll and play for it? The idea is to take the spin out of the shot by hitting even farther behind the ball than usual [three or four inches is recommended] and compensating for the removal of power by making a full swing. your ball will explode out of the sand but will roll a good three or four yards.
And no matter what you do, even for sand play, always imagine the shot before you take it. And imagine the shot being succesfull! Not much sense in defeating yourself before you even start. Imagine yourself being successful throughout your golf game and watch your game flourish.

Most avid golfers have probably received some of the silly golf gifts, since there is quite a selection available. Lets turn to golf clubs and covers, for instance. You can find golf covers ranging from cute cartoon characters to handmade crochet and a wide choice of covers somewhere in between. In fact, there are probably very few covers for golf clubs that havent had a time on the market at some point. Golf covers tend to be a universal gift for golfers. Fortunately, they do serve a purpose as they protect the clubs from wear and tear and, considering the high cost of some clubs, this is always a good idea.

Featured Golf ArticleTips To Play The Sand Trap
By Lee MacRae
Many golfers have a tremendous fear of sand traps and bunkers on the golf course. Let's take a look at some handy tips to improve your play from the bunkers.
When sand is wet or really firm, your sand wedge, with it's wide flange may very easily bounce off the surface and blade the ball. In such circumstances, it's better to use a pitching wedge or, when the flag is a long way off and you want your ball to run more, then use a seven, eight, or nine iron. Play your ball back in an open stance [much as you would do when playing a chip from the fairway] and position your hands just ahead of the ball. Unlike most sand shots, this one requires that you concentrate on hitting the ball first and not the sand. Work out your "landing area" before hitting the shot, and try to hit that area. If you miss it, don't worry. With all sand shots, it's far more important to get out the sand and to leave your ball close to the hole.
The sand actually allows for a margin of error. Just make sure you accelerate your
golf club through the sand and good results will follow.
The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

Golf Article Of The MonthTips To Play The Sand Trap
By Lee MacRae
Getting a good
golf shot out of bunker or a sand trap can go along way to salvaging a golf hole. Here are a few tips that you can use to make your golf game better.
Simply because the technique is similar to that used for a level lie from a bunker the sidehill lie is not that tough. While you take into account the affect the slope will have on the flight of the ball, you do not alter the steepness of your swing. A ball above your feet will want to go left. A ball that is below your feet it will tend to go to the right. Just adjust your stance accordto the circumstances and swing along the slope. To make this easier, flex your knees more and stand closer to the ball when it lies below your feet; stand straighter and farther from the ball when it lies above.
Landing in someone else's footprint in a bunker can be very frustrating. Especially if they are rakes stationed around the sand! But getting worked up about someone else's misdeeds won't help you escape. The trick here is to treat your ball as though it were in a buried lie. Pick up the club sharply and hit sharply down behind the ball to avoid the surrounding barrier of sand. You may also want to adjust your angle of attack depending on how the footprint lies. The only difference between the footprint shot and a buried lie shot is that you use a sand wedge and not a pitching wedge. You want to dig through the sides of the footprint [hence the angle of attack] but beyond that it's a normal sand shot.
The worst thing about hitting an uphill sand shot is that your ball probably is plugged in the sand. Balls that aren't plugged usually roll back down to a flat area. Here's how to play the shot: anchor your body by planting your right foot solidly in the sand, and slant your shoulders so that they are parallel with the slope. The swing for the shot isn't pretty. Just pick up the club sharply, keeping your legs still, and whack the sand behind the ball. Don't try to follow through. Remember that in such a perilous position any recovery is a good recovery.
Knowing the basic techniques of bunker sand play and understanding the subtleties of the various problems you can encounter will actually lead you to even enjoy the play from a sand bunker. I'm sure these tips will help you to enjoy your next round of golf.

Our Featured Golf ArticleBunkers And Sand Traps - How To Play Them
By Lee MacRae
Are you afraid of sand bunkers on the
golf course? Do you panic when you see one near where you need your ball to land? Follow along as we detail some tips and tricks to make sand play much easier for you.
Sand shots put such fear in the hearts of most golfers that they rush the swing fast and jerkily, thus making the good sand shot a matter more of happenstance than of planning and skill. The simple way to remedy this fault is to swing as slowly as possible. You'll find this lesson useful all over the golf course, but it is most useful in sand. Remember that the whole point of the sand shot is to miss the ball. You hit the sand, and the sand lifts the ball out of the bunker. Swinging faster usually doesn't help. Swinging very slowly will give you a greater feel of hitting the sand behind the ball, take the tension out of the shot, and ultimately give you the confidence needed to play any shot out of sand.
One of the most awkward bunker shots calls for you to stand outside the bunker when your ball is inside it. This usually results in unpleasant bending and a loss of balance. The key here is not to bend the back and stretch out to the ball. Concentrat instead on bending the knees as much as possible. Think of weightlifters. You never see them bending over to pick up their weights. They bend their knees, grab the weights, then simply stand up. Their legs are doing the lifting. Your legs, too, should do the bending on these tough bunker shots.
In general, a sand shot should be hit with a sand wedge, with both the stance and the clubface opened wide. The idea is to hit the sand and let it carry the ball out of the bunker. You should aim to make contact with the sand about two inches behind the ball and hit under and through. An important point here; with few exceptions, you should make a full fall through.
Once you have a feel for the basics of playing from sand, you can easily understand some of the finer points of bunker play, and you will find it easy to adapt your technique to different types of sand challenges and lies. Make your golf game more enjoyable with good sand play.

You could decide to replace the entire set of clubs, if money is no object, and your appetite for golf domination has no bounds. But there is another option to consider. There are probably many golf clubs in your bag, that haven't seen the light of day, or the green of a course since the last time you paid for drinks on the nineteenth hole. So, maybe you should just consider gradually replacing the clubs you really use with new high performance clubs. The next few times you go golfing, don't just keep track of the strokes on each hole. Take an extra golf score card, and just track of the golf clubs you use for each hole. A little more work, but after a few weeks, you should have a pretty good idea of which golf clubs you use the most, and which are just coming along for the ride. You may want to make up your own little custom golf club score card just for this exercise.

In a sand shot the most important part of the body is the left arm. Think of your left arm as holding a tennis racket hitting a backhand shot [a good image for most shots, but especially so for sand shots]. The left arm initiates tke takeaway and controls the downswing and follow through. It also helps you firm your left side. If you focus too much on your right arm, your left side is likely to collapse, your wrists may break, and you could very easily end up skulling the ball out of the bunker and into further trouble across the green.
The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

Golf Article Of The MonthSand Trap Tips
By Lee MacRae
Sand play does not have to be life threatening! But that is how many golfers feel when they land a shot into a bunker or sand trap. Follow along as we explain some things you can do to improve in this area of your golf game
One way to prevent dipping and hitting your ball heavy when playing a long bunker shot is to concentrate on keeping the knees "on the same level" throughout the swing. Note that we say he "on the same level" and not just "level". The idea is to stop you from lifting up or bending down. If you lift up, either you hit the ball thin or you run the risk of hitting it fat if you bend down again. If you bend down first, you'll almost definitely hit the ball fat.
Don't take digging and planting your feet for granted. Digging your feet into sand will give you a firm base with which to hit the shot. Have Also it will tell you what you're dealing with: how softer or course the sand is, how deep it is, whether there is a layer of hardpan just under the surface. But be careful when digging in, however. If you dig in it too deeply, and then fill in your footprints, you will be guilty of "building a stance&&, which is a breach of rule 13-3. The penalty is two strokes in stroke play or loss or hole in match play.
Once you have a feel for the basics of playing from sand, you can easily understand some of the finer points of bunker play, and you will find it easy to adapt your technique to different types of sand challenges and lies. Make your
golf game more enjoyable with good sand play.

More Thoughts On Golf golf clubsIt's considered the bigger the head of the driver the more chance a player has of connecting with the ball in what is known as the sweet zone area. Take a look at the pro golf circuit today and it seems more and more professionals have a club in their bag with a larger head. They look a little ungainly in use but their effectiveness in gaining more leverage in power at the connection point seems unquestioned.
golf ironsAlmost every private course that I can think of however requires all players to wear collared shirts when playing on their course. You will find that most private courses are very strict about this as they want to make sure their course follows all the guidelines set by the PGA. This gives their course a sense of professionalism.
